Flight options.

There is 2 Airports serving Iguassu (Iguazu, Iguaçu) Falls, IGU on the Brazilian side and IGR on the Argentinian side.
See here for a map of airports connecting to IGU and IGR  forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=3052.msg1363094#msg1363094

When searching for award availability search first to connecting  airports as for example, from NYC VIA Brazil search

LAN thru Lima Peru (cheapest option usually) Oneworld (BA Shows Lan)
JFK-GIG  on Tam (BA.com) and/or AA (AA.com)
JFK- GRU AA, Delta
EWR-GRU UA
COPA airlines flies thru Panama City and GRU (usually 2 stops)

Argentina options

Aerolineas Argentina JFK-EZE
LAN Argentina

Hotels
Belmont in the Brazilian side of the park
Sheraton Iguazu in the Argentina side of the park. (SPG)
Park Hyatt Iguacu Falls coming soon!

Major Activities

The Argentinian side is more up-close and personal.
You will need to walk both the upper and lower trail on the Argentina side. The upper will take about an hour, the lower about 2. Make sure to do the boat ride on the lower trail for the most awesome views. You will get soaked so take along a ziplock for your camera. You can also take the train to Devils point

The Brazillian side is more of a panorama view.
On the Brazil side at the falls there is less walking as you are not next to the falls like on the Argentina side but rather across the river from them. You will take a tram to the start of the trail on the Brazil side and just walk along side the falls, starting from the pink hotel till the end. When you get to the end is when you will be totally blown away. Walk out on the boardwalk and you will get the most amazing view of the falls.

Bird park well worth about an hour

Helicopter tour on the Brazillian side (Argentina band it as its not Eco friendly)

There is a  huge dam you can tour that powers all of Paraguay and huge portions of Brazil and Argentina

Airport Transfer Options

Cabs are available at fairly cheap from both airports to the park and hotels (cross border too)

I hear you. It's definitely more convenient to keep the $630 and not have to worry about finding availability with avios, but also keep in mind that you'd have to get back to EZE which is less convenient that AEP. Also, at 1.5cpp 7500 Avios is $112.50 which is cheaper than $150 but might not be worth the hassle.

You are calculating just one way. If he keeps the 480 fare he will have to go RT to AEP/EZE, which will be 15k, so worth a lot more than $112.50. So because of A) NYC-LIM-EZE-IGR/IGU-LIM-NYC is better than NYC-LIM-IGU/IGR-AEP-IGR/IGU-LIM-NYC IMO. and B) simply costs less. I would keep the the $630 option.

Yeah, I like the $630 itinerary so will probably keep.

Will the 7% rebate from top cash back be valid for the Orbitz booking?

Thanks guys! I appreciate the replies!

Fair point. I stand corrected.

If BOS-DUB is one of the best routes of Avios, this (AEP-IGR) gotta be one of the most annoying ones at 652 miles, just 2 over..

I'll give you that, although I did use Avios for that route myself as prices were over USD$500.

Me too, still a bummer that it's not a couple miles closer :) - I could have gotten AR for about $100, but LA was a lot more reliable.

Trying to take care of my IGR/U flights and I could use some help. We are doing EZE, IGR/U, and GIG.
For background: Landing in EZE late Thursday night- we will be going straight to the hotel to sleep.
Using Avios for AEP-IGR/U:
If we leave EZE/AEP for IGR on Monday, there is an early morning flight. (Giving us almost 3 full days in IGR/U)
If we leave EZE/AEP for IGR on Tuesday, there is only a late morning flight getting us into IGR at 1 PM. (Giving us only 2 half days in IGR/U)
We are leaving IGU Weds. night on G3 booked with skypesos.

The debate of staying in IGR/U for longer:
Pros: Definitely a once in a lifetime experience.
Cons:
  • I am hesitant to spend my SPG points on hotels, especially since it is so much harder to earn than UR for example.  I much prefer to transfer to airlines.
  • The kosher situation- more time in IGR/U means less time away from the ease of kosher food in EZE.
For those that have been, is IGR/U worth sucking it up and spending the SPG points for an extra night, and just dealing with bringing food?

2 half-days in Iguazú should be fine. When's your flight out of IGU?

IGU 6:10 PM- GIG 8:09 PM
I figure we do the Argentinian side on day 1, and the Brazilian side on day 2 since we're flying out of IGU.
From what I understand the best thing is to have a driver to take you around, that way you can leave your bags in the car while you are in the parks.
Where do you get the drivers? Are they just waiting at the airport for customers? Don't you feel unsafe leaving all your belongings with a stranger?

That's the same time as the Gol flight I took. It'll work out well. Just do the Argentinian side the day you land and the Brazilian side the next day. If you get up early enough you can do some more on the Argentinian side before heading to Brazil. Depending on when you're going keep in mind there might be a 1 hour time difference if Brazil is observing DST.

Both parks have luggage storage for a small fee. We stayed in the Sheraton which meant we didn't have to worry about storing bags until we got to Brazil.

We're staying at the Sheraton too- so the plan is to go straight to the hotel when we land, check in. From there head right to the Argentinian falls.
And for the next day, maybe do some of the Argentinian side, check out, get a driver to take us to Brazil and store bags there. Spend time on Brazilian side. Get driver to take us to IGU.
Sound good?

Only during the summer. If you visit in March-October they are on standard time and there is no difference.

EZE, GIG, and GRU all have great shabbos options.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
