ime, those rooms are 30K +.
Can you call and explain? Today, they may give back points without a fee. They can still sell room.
Tomorrow they may not.

Made a mistake and need your guys advice. I booked a night in the st Regis Miami and the same night in the w fll thinking I was going to cancel st Regis. I didn't realize cancelation date for both was last week. I called to cancel and they said they can cancel the reservations but its up to he hotel if they want to give points back.

Anyone have experience getting points back?
Have SPG call the hotel and explain that you by mistake made a duplicate reservation for that night. They are usually accommodating and will give you the points back "as a one time courtesy". Just don't make a habit of doing it.

If I call and they say no will they force me to cancel and pay cancelation fee? Can I tell them if they can't cancel I'm giving it to a friend? Is that legal?

They can't force you to cancel anything.

I made a reservation over the phone and cause of a technical issue where the property could not pull up my reservation, SPG canceled and rebooked a few times till they resolved the issue.

However now that I log into my account I see that I have 2 reservations and was only changed for one room. I'm traveling with kids and I wouldn't mind the extra room.

If I checkin to both rooms is there a chance they will figure it out the mistake and charge me for the second room?.

yes, most probably when you check in they will charge for each room -- in addition, that room can only be canceled 4-20 hours in advance, so you will need to pay if it's not cancelled.

But they both say "Rate Details   SPG Free Nights"?!

they call it "free nights" when you stay with all points and no cash.   (Hyatt equivalent is "award night")

I understand, but in my case both reservation are identical and both show the points amount paid for it, however my remaining balance only reflects minus one room. Somehow I have a good feeling here.

Anyone ever had this before?

2 confirmation emails with 2 different confirmation numbers. They both show the same amount of points as the room price but does not reflect in the balance.

If you have 2 emails and 2 confirmation numbers, then it may all be cleared away. (IMO, i'd be sure to have the extra points available in your acct the event that they need to charge for that room upon check-in.)

Be aware that some hotels are only 21 and over and they technically could make a problem

though they have never stopped me B4
