The free night offered by the new Chase card, can it be used for a standard room only? Or it can be used at an upgraded hotel room as long as the points redemption on that room is under 35k?

Just booked an SPG 50 rate for the first time. Has anyone done it recently? I heard conflicting reports on whether you earn points on the cash part. Any recent data points would be appreciated,
update: you do earn points and it counts for promo nights as well

A friend of mine wants to book my hotel in Italy on his spg/Marriott account to get himself Platinum status. He would add me as a second and I'd check in and then wife would come after.

I saw this in Rick Steves Venice book and now I'm concerned that maybe it's not such a good idea of they start asking questions.

I wouldnt worry too much as the book says. Worse comes to worse you wont get the benefits but you will be allowed to check in.

They won't charge me for not having the original booker and having a different second person?

no your name is on the reservation you can check in. The only thing they can do is deny benefits until AH comes.

As for the second guest. Leave your wife on the side, get the room and then bring her in. No need to register her. They don't check ID every time someone goes in and out of a hotel

So if I go check in with a carry on and a suitcase while she sits on the street or lobby, then I go to room and come back for her with her carryon and suitcase then all should be good?

Any DP's on booking SPG reservation through UR portal and receiving status benefits (upgrade) by calling and having them add reservation to your SPG account or emailing hotel property in advance? If it helps the account would have platinum status. Would prefer to not rely on getting there and hoping they add my status to the reservation once at check in desk...

DPs wouldn't help unless you ask for the specific hotel. It's YMMV and officially status is not recognized if you don't book through SPG

when you check in for the 4 nights at the front desk, that is when they can add on the 5th night free.

The above referenced  account is currently inaccessible as there are strong indicators that multiple accounts were created and are being controlled by the same person and were created to override SPGŪ Program parameters.

Some recent Starpoint purchases were flagged in our system as there are requests entered on each account to have the purchased points transferred to your account.

The accounts have the same surname and mailing address that is on your Platinum account profile. A request to legitimize the accounts was sent to each of individual email address.

Please submit a valid, government issued picture ID bearing your name and current mailing address via return email.

Please conceal the identification number itself as we do not require that information.  We only need to confirm your name and mailing address to legitimize the account.

Each account will need to be legitimized before all accounts can be released. I just got this email when attempting to transfer from multiple accounts
