it's always a YMMV. It's also a plat benefit to have early check-in and up to 4:00pm check out. Almost makes one night worth two nights in that case.
In your situation, they will give you an area, but if it's really needed, then a friend can book you a room on plat and request early check in. (They can even ask in advance and it may be available...)
Have reservation for today at 4 points Sheraton but we came at 11am and no dice we couldn't check in early... Any ideas or that's that?
Just had the same at a hotel, I requested early check in, (i am a Gold Member) they told me on the phone that they couldn't guarantee it because the night before was full, but they could for sure hold my bags until the next available room opened up
If you think nobody cares about you... just forget to pay your credit card bill

WTH is this? When completing the booking there's no additional fees.

sometimes there's an extra "resort fee", but usually all points is a free night.you will not be charged when you reserve. Were you charged at checkout?

Haven't stayed there yet, but there's no resort fee at this location.

I know I won't be charged when I reserve. Question is where they get this amount from?

I believe that's how much the hotel will recieve from SPG for the night.

if you book a Sheraton through orbitz or the like, can you still get upgraded to a club room with your gold satus

Possibly, but i think it would need to be at the hotel as i do not think hotel chains recognize bookings from third party sites for status etc.

+1 I recently checked in to a SPG hotel with gold status and didn't get offered a club room.

Nobody is looking to offer you anything. Did you try asking?

I stayed at a SPG hotel in Baltimore a few months ago (SPG Gold) and asked for an upgrade. Got upgraded to Club level room.

It could be it has to do with availability. I did go to a very booked out hotel. Even had trouble getting all 6 nights that I wanted but they gave it to me in the end. But that's why I didn't ask bec I wanted first to be able to stay there the 6 nights so didn't want to ask for too much.

That. Always. Even platinums won't get upgraded if there's no availability.
