While I hear what you are saying in a circumstance where someone was planning on using his award stays, but if someone isn't planning on redeeming points toward stays, he could still be interested in making stay quotas, no?

Then he's probably wasting his money.

Why?? He could be putting them toward airline miles (I.e. one of the biggest advantages of SPG 20:25)

If he's not staying at Starwood properties, then why does he care about SPG status?

(Feels a little strange that we are having an in-depth discussion of the mind set of a theoretical person. That being said,) simple scenerio- if he has redeemed most of his current available points toward airlines (and therefore has no option of using SNAs at that time) but is planning on opening new SPG cards to have points to stay at SPG properties. Any paid stays to help his stay quota will allow him to have status when booking a hotel stay with his newly accrued points.

When getting bonus SPG points for taking an Uber during your stay, are they strict with time of checkout? Meaning, if I checkout in the morning and take an Uber later in the afternoon, will I still get 2 pts per dollar or does the system realize that I already checked out?

If I have a five nights under one  reservation, booked under the lower rate, can I drop two nights off without getting repriced to the higher category rate ?

It will automatically get repriced due to you not staying 5 nights.
You have to call 888-625-4988 & find out. Its definitely being repriced to a higher rate
