Is there a dedicated thread to SPG Nights & Flights or a DDMS post explaining it?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Must be booked 14 days in advance? Can I get the airline miles transferred and not actually use on this trip?

My wife's account had no activity for a year so she lost her points. When she asked to reinstate them, CSR said she had them reinstated once in the past already and they only give that courtesy once. Any ideas how to revive the points?

Im a bit confused as how points are earned for SPG properties.
I stayed at Sheraton for $1300 CAD. I didn't book with and SPG card. I received 1785 miles plus an additional 875 for Gold member (numbers are all approx.).
How does it work? I receive the going rate in points even though I used a different CC?

you earn 2 points per US dollar spent from the hotel no matter which cc you use. Gold and platinum members earn an additional point per dollar spent.

If you use the spg cc when your statement closes you will earn an additional 2 points per dollar from Amex bringing your total to 5 ppd

For spg stays:

Does anyone know if at any point of a confirmed cash booking a stay can be changed from that to a points or c&p booking (if available)?

So if it is outside the free cancellation window it can't be changed to a different type of reservation?

You'll need putpac and possibly Huca. It's likely up to the hotel

I am three nights away from Gold status... is it worth getting three local $88 hotel room stays to reach gold status? I used to have Gold through the amex but don't spend the 30K on that one anymore. The Gold SPG got me status matches to Hyatt and HIlton, but those programs don't match back.

Get a AMX plat card that will give u status with no stay required  -- after 200 airline credit 2x will net cost  u $50 ---- less than 88x3
