I stayed in Sheraton ET this past weekend. There were many groups staying there and many of the facilities were out of order including the pool. Has anyone received SPG points for issues at Eaton town? The staff is not so easy going.

This might have been asked before but couldn't find it. Can I book a reservation with my spg number using someone elses spg points? They want to benefit from my gold status and I need the stays to earn Plat.

no you cannot. Reservation must be made from the account with the points in it.

Sherraton Eatontown won't give Plat Bennys if Plat member doesn't come with ID?
Incorrect. Tried and done.

Tell the hotel you will have to call SPG if you don't come to a resolution

The threat alone should produce results.

I was offered at a Le meridean 10k

Hotel: I'm sorry that's the best we can offer.
Me: that is not acceptable I should be credited what I paid.

Hotel: I'm sorry we can't offer more that's the max we are allowed to.

Me: while I accept the 10k I'm sorry to say That is totally unacceptable compensation  I'll just have to deal with SPG about the issue.
Hotel: Ok will give you 20k

Is there any fee or penalty for cancelling an SPG reservation made with points?  Is there a time limit?

Sorry.  Within 48 hours of making the reservation?  Or 48 hours prior to arrival?

I ended up calling SPG because the cancellation policy showing on the app for the reservation merely said "may incur a penalty".

A mock reservation told me I had until 18:00 local time the day prior to arrival to cancel without penalty.

I ended up calling the Platinum Concierge and was told I could cancel without penalty up to 00:00 the day prior to arrival.

The 30,000 SPG's were back in my account within 2 minutes of the cancellation.

some hotels allow 12-24 hrs notice, and others are by 6:00pm the day before your reservation. Each hotel is different.

Some can be weeks before your stay. Need to check the property specifically.

Interesting that it varies by property.  I would assume (obviously incorrectly)  that would be something standardized by the SPG program.  Guess i need to pay more attention before i hit submit on that app in the future.

Thanks

I have cancelled the day of, you just need to speak to the manager and have them approve it.

they don't always approve. It's A YMMV situation and I wouldn't rely on it.
