Is it new that you can book Suites C&P or was I just living under a rock?

My brother booked 3 paid nights in the W south beach. Can I call up and put the reservation under my spg number to get credit for the stays?

Or does it have to be the person who's name is on the reservation?

Can you use Starwood free drink certificates when you're not staying in the hotel?
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

They usually give them for free for use for the first 24hrs that you are there as a welcome gold/plat gift...
So, someone who is not staying there can technically present a ticket in the lobby and get a free drink, however it's usually just for the first day of the stay.
Although, if you are referring to the free drink option as the amenity over the 500 free points option, maybe those don't expire. I don't know -- I choose the 500 pts in those cases.

As a practical matter if you hand over that little purple card, will they ask for a room number or just take that and close the tab?

YMMV, but I've handed mine over (got a few for one stay -- gave some away, as well...) no questions asked... That dept. gets paid for the card -- doesn't matter who/where it came from.

Up to 30% off (on paid stays it seems)

http://www.starwoodpromos.com/cybermonday/?EM=HP_PRIM_SPG_CYBMON14_EN_AMER

If you are going to book a paid stay anyways it seems to be worth it otherwise its not THAT much of a difference. At least to me it seems so.

I'm looking for a SPG hotel at the end of January and only see "cash and points" available on dates from now until end of December. Do "cash and points" open up as it gets closer?

yes. Your name is on the booking. You are allowed to add a guest's name to your booking, double occupancy.

Can someone else use my gold status when booking their room? Is there a way for me to do it for them using my status?

Book the room on your account and just add their name to the reservation.
Not complicated at all.
