Hi All!
Visiting BA end of january with wife and 3 children incl. baby 1.5 years.
Looking for a decent to upscale hotel for shabbat very close walking distance to the Jewish community.
We normally enjoy spending shabbes with chabad around the world but since this is a large jewish community would really love to experience shabbes with the community/ shuls.
Just read thru all of the posts in this thread after 2015 (plus 15 more pages scattered) and can not find anything up to date. Any help is much appreciated!

Park Hyatt and Chabad of Recoleta.

I was just there. Chabad with PH is very nice. But 15 min walk, and not sure what your deal with a stroller would be and no eruv (if this is a factor for you).
PH was just ok imho, but extremely convenient and beautiful neighborhood.

The biggest community is in Once, but there are no chain hotels nearby. If you want to stay in the heart of things (not touristy things, rather the Jewish community) stay there. See my TR for where we stayed.

The walk from the PH to Once is not too bad if you're looking to stay in a luxury points hotel.

Right, but if the goal is staying on a community over a nine points hotel, staying in Once is better. Most people don't do it though, preferring the PH and chabad of Recoleta instead, but they don't get to see Once on shabbos.

Once is a very poor neighborhood

I wouldnt have felt comfortable over shabbos in Once with wife and kids. We were there on Friday, was very nice to see everyone getting ready for shabbos.

Why not? I felt perfectly safe. I know they take precautions like dead bolting the apartment building from both inside and outside, but I didn't see anything that would have lead me to feel unsafe. Oh, and I walked back to the hotel at which we were staying at 1:30am with no problems.

Thanks for the comments. I booked the Park Hyatt for two nights.  Will report back my experience after the trip.. Does anyone know if they will give me a hard time/ charge me for the kids ? Only booked one room.

I could do this then:

Saturday EWR to GIG - land Sunday afternoon
Monday: Rio
Tuesday: Rio
Wednesday: Early flight to IGU, half day tour of Brazil side
Thursday: Iguazu Argentina side, evening flight to Buenos Aires
Friday: Buenos Aires
Saturday: Buenos Aires
Sunday: Buenos Aires, fly home on late night flight

The downside to this is in order to take an early flight to IGU, I need to pay for it but it's only $90, so I think I can handle that.  The free flight that's available through United doesn't get in until later in the day and I would rather have more time to see Iguazu.

Is that really enough time to see the major highlights of each place?

I'm planning to kick this trip back into action (unfortunately postponed due to health problems). If my options is Rio/Iguazu/Buenos Aires vs Chile (Mainly Atacama Desert and Punta Arenas ) what would you pick? Has anyone been to both to compare?

We'd be traveling with all adults, kosher restaurants are not really too much of a factor.

Seems like both are good, but two different trips. There's lots to see on both trips, so decide which one you want to do now and so the other one later.

Been to Chile 5 years ago and did not enjoy the food there at all. Not to many kosher options. Felt very safe though.

I am so torn.  I can't imagine being able to pull off both of these trips. At this point it will likely be one or the other, at least for the foreseeable future.

Why not combine the best parks of both trips into one trip?

Flights between the areas I really want to see require 2 stops. So Punta Arenas to Iguazu Falls basically takes an entire day. It feels like a waste of time.

Why specifically Punta Arenas and not Ushuaia?

Yes we did , was not from our favorite destinations though. It was warm in February, mostly nice and clean country. Was not there for long. Had a driver for the two days and he drove us to a really nice beach town and to El Yeso Dam was beautiful there.

There was a deal to Chile with COPA and can stop off as long as you want in PTY. So we went to PTY for 8 days and Chile for 2.

Patagonia near Punta Arenas is "nicer" than Ushuaia.

Ok, but if you have a time crunch and a lot  of places to see, you may have to settle for the not as nice place.
