A vast majority did know who he was, or found out easy enough. Hence it was in good practice to call him the dersh IMO.

If he said Alan dershowitz it would have had just about the same meaning to everyone...

He is not frum. I don't think it is l"h because it is public.

He defends all sorts of people. Sometimes because he likes their cause (yiddin), sometimes because he likes their money or publicity (OJ), sometimes to make a point (pornography), sometimes because he's friends with them and had no idea they were bombing buildings (JDL).

I'm not his biggest fan, but nor yet his biggest critic. He gave me a bad grade and I will forever resent him for it, but some people oddly resent him more for getting OJ off.

I'm not aware he was involved in DSK. Ben Brafman did that.
