no idea if this will work or not.

$100 Vanilla Visas cards with no activation fee found at od.com.
$200 Vanilla Visas cards with no activation fee found at od.com.

credit to the people at FT, though as yet, no one knows if this will actually work.

Availability appears to be zip code dependent (alas, shipping zip).

Anyway, a huge YMMV.

Edit: If these come pre-activated (when you buy in store, they are activated then and there), it may be especially risky

I haven't tried, but some say yes and some say no. I believe the PIN is whatever you choose it to be at your first transaction.

The question for these cards is...they usually activated when you purchase them. Since there's no activation fee, will that mean that they won't be activated or that you have to activate them yourselves?

More worrisome may be that if they are already activated when you buy them, that means that John Doe OD packer could just take them off the line and use them himself.

I believe it's destination address dependent. I changed my zip to an available area (NY, NJ, TX) but then when I entered my own shipping address, the cart changed and the item was no longer in stock.

IIRC, I just called the number on the back and entered the card information. Which I guess means, they were just as "activated" as these OD.com ones might be.

Then again, there are so many different GCs out there that I may be confusing the different activation/pin setting procedures.

That's what i remember as well. Should be the same amount of worry involved with this as with the Chase GC's. What was more worrying about the Chase GC's was being sent to a third party seller.
