check it out.
Depends. Do you know the diff. between a soft code and hard code? If it doesn't come back on on it's probably not that important. He didn't say why the light was on.  Could just be an O2 sensor which is probably not an emergency. (I have that myself now, though I plan on swapping it out myself) My advice, if you don't know what it is, stop by your local auto zone and get a free diagnostics. Then proceed from there.

sometimes it could be something minor like not screwing on the gas cap that triggers the check engine light although it can be something more serious/ expensive like an O2 sensor or a catalytic converter

B2S1 (O2 sensor heater) needs to be replaced to clear the code. What model is your car?

what are you trying to do? fix the car? or pass inspection? if its to pass inspection you can register the car in Minneapolis and they DONT have an inspection/emissions.  but if its to fix the car just call up a mechanic or dealer and tell them the code that is coming up and they can give you an approx cost of fixing the problem.
