I am located near Grand Central Station in NYC. Just woke up and realized I do not have shoes to wear tomorrow. I need something that I can wear to work as well. Obviously, the cheaper the better. All suggestions welcome!

now the question is did rav elyashiv actually say that. if he did, does he understand what crocks are himself or did someone describe to him what they are.

Maybe there's a Payless around that can help you, FWICR (decades ago...), Payless has "disposable" shoes for cheap, great for TB.

Someone I know went to ask R' Moshe Shternbuch on erev TB (or maybe YK, dont remember) if he could wear crocs, and lo and behold, the rav was wearing crocs!

Unfortunately, nothing close enough. I appreciate the heads up nonetheless. A large box store in the neighborhood has a sneaker close to my size. they told me that if its no good I can return it (even once worn). If the size is no good, I can return it without feeling bad. If it works, ill keep it for YK (hopefully the last 9 Av)

There is actually a difference, YK it's for Inuy so some poskim hold that any comfortable shoes are out, TB is for Aveilus and therefore it's just a problem with leather.

According to the explanation given to ban crocs, any sneakers that are man made but comfortable (and could be worn on a regular day) would be just as assur as crocs. I love seeing these self righteous people who refuse to wear crocs because it 'assur' and instead wear comfortable sneakers/non leather shoes etc.
