I currently don't have any status with united, however I can get Premier Platinum for $1250 and it will last until Jan' 15'. I fly united a lot between jfk-lax (1-2 month) but I have chase and united points so I never pay $$ for tickets. I have the united club card for two years now for the baggage and premier access. Would I gain anything by Premier Platinum status??

I did not see this offer anywhere, if you can post a link.
But one of the benefits are, standard award economy plus seating free, as well as upgrades, which the club card does not give you.

Its a exclusive offer through the company I work for.

Do they actually give upgrades for awards tickets? Would you need to buy standard award and not saver?

If you are flying ~20 times a year and would pay extra for e+ at lets say even $50 per way than it still comes out significantly cheaper to get status for 1250 vs 2000 (not counting any upgrades)

Personally I would put the $1,250 towards paid tickets for the jfk-lax trips (assuming that you can snag decent deals) to save the united miles and earn miles + status on those flights.

It would take a year to earn the status that way.

I'd consider it a fair price. Primary benefit is upgrades on domestic flights and free changes/redeposits on awards.

Since you have a United credit card you could get upgrade for award tickets including saver. United doesn't give complimentary upgrades on P.S. flights.

Considering all the new fees UA implemented you may save yourself a pretty buck even if you only fly on award tickets. Paying for any change to your flight can add up very quickly.

You will earn double miles on paid flights which would amount to over 50k a year so that should balance the cost out

He has the club card, so the only additional benefit is the upgrades.
As well as it probably gives him star alliance gold allowing 3 pieces of luggage internationally.

On longer flights it’s very hard to get upgraded, but on shorter flights you have a good chance.
