Help a chosson
« on: July 22, 2013, 03:56:33 AM »
My brother is getting married in australia in a few weeks imyh.
He does not have any friends flying in.
I would like to get enough miles to make a ticket for at least one friend.
I think the best option would be citi thank you points, although u need more miles then other airlines, it is free to share.
Doing a quick search for ny to melbourne looks like I will need around 110k.
If 20 people give 5k then it will work.
Ask ur LOR if u can count it as maaser.
Once I get enough commitments, I will PM the account number to transfer the points to.
If anyone needs more info or accountability please PM me.

For those that know my brother, please don't mention this to him until I know for sure there will be enough points for a ticket.

Thanks so much

If ur miles are a byproduct of flying then they are something extra.

But if u open credit cards and spend, davka to make money from it. But instead of cashing out, u donate it, does that not change the equation?

Sure. If you usually include your miles value and maaser on it...

I have 540 TYPs, you can have them all (if it helps), assuming I can find the transfer option.

You should auction this ticket off amongst his friends. I'd be his friend for a free trip to Australia :)
