"I just recently rented from Sixt in Spain. AFAIK there was no damage done and the agent even did a walk around afterwards and didn't find anything. A week later I get an email from them:Dear Client,
We have noted the following new damage on your rental vehicle:
Bumper protection strip front Driver side scratch 5-10 cm deep (down to primer)
Please find attached our questionnaire. We would be grateful if you could complete this form, as it contains necessary information of how the incident occurred.
Your comments are of importance to enable us to investigate the case thoroughly, please therefore respond urgently.
Please note that we will require your response in writing (letter/email) and that your response is a requirement for the damage waiver that you may have included on your rental to apply.
We are looking forward to hearing from you by 27.07.2013. Many thanks and best regards"
 To which I responded
"I'm sorry but I received the vehicle in that state the customary
walk-around did not occur before I received the car and in my haste I
failed to comment on the damage"
I only remembered afterward that there was a walk around done afterward
And I just received this:
Dear Mr. SamKey,

Thank you for your e-mail.

Please be appreciative of the fact that if there is a damage reported to us by one of our branches we always try to find out the circumstances.

As we are well aware that there might occur mistakes at times and to clarify any possible misunderstanding, before charging the costs of a damage to our customers, we sent this standard form you have received.

With your e-mail this matter is settled. We apologize for the annoyance.

Yours sincerely

I have rented countless times over the past 7 years. This past rental is the first timed i had an incident. I rented from National and the day after i returned i got a call that there is a dent in door.
I told them that i mentioned it to agent when i picked it up....so they said they will file a dispute and get back to me....
I am still waiting to hear back its about 5 weeks

Rented a car from Hertz in Brooklyn (Atlantic Ave). Either I did a bad job inspecting it or I dented it that day. Thankfully, it was only the bumper, but it was a big dent. Took it immediately to the body shop, and the owner was nice enough to fix it on the spot, and didn't even charge for it!
Was willing to pay, simply to avoid the insurance headaches, and $25 amex insurance charge. Had no issues on return.

Just rented in israel for two weeks got big scratch on front fender. knowing that Hertz in Israel is notorious for outrageous charges for damage, i went to a cousin on wadi jo and had a cheap paint job done for 20 shekel, passed the walk around and haven't heard anything since!
