Awesome place.

+1.
I cant spend more then a max of 1.5/2 hrs at a museum before getting antsy, and we spent appx 4-5 enjoyable hours at the Newseum.

Agreed! I am not a big museum fan in general.  My wife and I went to the Newseum at approx 10 AM on a Friday.  Before we knew it, it was about 4 PM and had to run back to our hosts for shabbos! We barely saw 1/2 the museum.

I am looking to stay at a Starwoods property in Washington or Silver Springs, does anyone have experience at a specific place that was worthwhile, I prefer category 3 and up

Westin Georgetown or St. Regis.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

did you stay at the Westin Georgetown, what would be my chance of getting upgraded there with SPG Gold status.

You won't have to worry about anything below a 3, unless you want to stay really far out. What are your priorities here? There are 6 SPG hotels in DC proper, ranging from levels 4-6, plus a level 4 in Silver Spring. Is location a priority? Do you want the best value, nicest overall, etc?

When I was in DC I stayed a bit farther out, in a Westin on the Virginia side of the area. If I was doing it again, I'd go for the Sheraton Silver Spring. It's really close to plenty of food and minyanim, plus free parking and a Metro station right there. It's also cheaper than the others (except for the Four Points, which seems like a silly idea once you're going to be in DC proper).

I think most people here seem to prefer to stay in the nicer hotels right in the thick of things. If you do too, I'd say +1 to the Westin Georgetown. It's walkable to the shul, 2 different Metro stations and to Eli's. Hard to beat that.

I didn't stay there. Chances will be based on availability, but I would be shocked if you didn't get something.

Thanks for the heads up, I want a really nice place, I looked into Shereton Silver Spring it did not seem to be great value for the money/points, the Westin Georgetown costs more but seems to be a more high end property.  I was wondering about the Minyan in Georgetown, how far is it?

Westin Georgetown
Save 15 pecent - Prepaid Rate from USD 169
or SPG Free Nights for 12,000 Starpoints
or SPG Cash & Points for 6,000 Starpoints + USD 110

all for a Traditional Room

The Park Hyatt and the Fairmont are also very nice properties and within walking distance to the shul.

There is a Westin right next to the Fairmont and Park Hyatt.

The Westin that's near the Park Hyatt and Fairmont is the aforementioned Westin Georgetown (there's also a Ritz there). If you think you might not use points, it can't hurt to check cash prices at these places, you might get an affordable rate.

@rochel - Where did you see awful reviews on the Westin?

I'm pretty sure no one is suggesting that one. The Westin Georgetown is the one that's near the other hotels dhalpern mentioned. The Westin City Center is closer to many attractions, but the Westin Georgetown is in a much nicer area, as well as closer to food and the shul, etc.

Correct, these 3 Georgetown hotels are around a mile away from Kesher Israel. They are also a half miles from Eli's kosher deli.
