I even used Uber to go to silver springs and it cost me only 20   dollars for a 40 minute ride instead of the metro being 4.70 per person and then needing to take a car from metro station to destination
The traffic could be terrible trying to out of the beltway. Did you Daven and eat in Silver Spring?

a great routine is to have dinner at Ben Yehuda (pizza, salad, and ice cream) and then walk right next door (it's Young Israel?) for Mincha. Free parking and no need to drive. Family can stay at Ben Yehuda through the end of ma'ariv.  and then there's a huge crowd exiting.....

I am planning short DC trip, will drive there so will be getting around in car.

1. Is it realistic to get around via car? Is traffic bad?

2. Is it a good idea to get a hotel far from attractions and drive?

If your talking about the national mall. You can't go from one place to the other with a car.

Just around it, lots of restricted parking areas.

To and from you may have traffic depending on the time and direction.

But you can find for $10 a day parking in the area

1) Are there any shuls within walking distance to the National Mall?
2) Is Char the closest/only place for lunch or dinner? Is it decent?
3) How long is the trip on the metro from DCA to the Mall? How much time do I need to get to DCA in the evening?

not going to have a car
many thanks

Look here for food http://www.wsat.org/buyfood.htm

Shaul's has been closed for years. Sholom's Kosher Market is a huge super-grocery, deli, bakery, and wine-store center.

Hi, I need to travel from Washington, DC to LAX on a Wednesday afternoon/evening. WAS (either DCA or IAD) to LAX will be on my own dime, either dollars or points.

I will be in DC for work, and as such, my employer will pay to fly me back to BOS (or up to PHL or NYC) if I want to do that, and then fly from BOS/NYC/PHL to LAX. Or, I could just fly WAS-LAX.

There is award availability IAD-LAX on UA mid afternoon, which is almost perfect timing for me, although only in coach (737).  :'(

There is also award availability BOS-LAX on AA in the evening, which requires/allows me to fly on the company dime (and get the mileage credit) back to BOS, and maybe even see the family during the layover...though it's more shlepping.

A third option is that there is award availability PHL-LAX in the evening, so I could get the company to fly me DCA-PHL (and get those miles) and then PHL-LAX (A321) for which there is both Y and F availability. (Is this F anything special?)

There appears to be no NYC-LAX non-stop award availability at the moment on UA or AA.

Last thought: is there any "unusual" transcon flight that I should be considering? Something like CX's JFK-YVR? (maybe I should do that, if it's even available... could I get AA to book me JFK-YVR-LAX in F for, what, 32,500AA?) Oy, so many options!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
