See if buying hyatt stay certs from hyatt will work for you.
Otherwise they trade on the forum for about $250/night.

I looked at stay certs, but they don't list which properties require which level. I've never used them before so I don't really know how they work.

Call the hotel to make a res with a stay cert and then buy the cert.
No stay credit or points, but you can save a bundle.

Thanks! Apparently at the PH Washington DC I can't save too much. The lowest level they offer is $250/night, off the current rate of ~$300 right now. Not too big of a savings.

@Dan: It says on the ticket for the capitol building you must arrive 45 minutes prior to the time stated? Is this true? Did you do that?

If I can get C&P at the Westin for 4800SPG+90/night is that worth it over the $260/night rate+tax (about $300/night effectively)?

Of course it is (unless you value SPG at more than 4cpp)

How tough is it to convince them to open up C&P if its currently showing as unavailable?

You noticed they stopped honoring them at (some of) the EU hotels.

Stopped implies they once did.

At any rate the best deal for these is PH SYD.

@Dan: It says on the ticket for the capitol building you must arrive 45 minutes prior to the time stated? Is this true? Did you do that?

In general, it depends when you're there. I went to the capitol on Presidents day and there wasn't much of a crowd at all. But they said in the summer the lines are tremendous. We actually reserved a specific time but didn't make it because of the hassle they gave us with food.  When we got in and said we made a reservation and missed it, they sent us to a different line than the one for walk-ins. So its possible that as long as you reserve it's not a big deal if you're late getting in.

Just found it on the Fairmont website as well. Its odd because the best available rate for the same nights I'm looking at are $349/night - but this package seems to allow cancellations also up to the day before.

Just read through the entire thread. Halacha lemaaseh, we will make a reservation for Eli's at 8. We are now at the air and space and walking around that area.

Is there anywhere in the 'hood we can get a milching lunch in the meantime? (Car parked far away)

Lol...just eat at Eli's twice.  I don't think you'll need reservations there.
Or eat at Eli's now and drive to Pomegranate for dinner.

But is anything aforementioned (like Rockville) relatively on the way to Hanover, MD?

It's $28 for an excellent steak with a number of great sauces and 2 side dishes.
Skip their entrees and dessert.
