I drove around for the most part when I was there President's Day weekend. It was obviously not traffic free, but not terrible. If you're there with kids (ie car seats) I think it can be worthwhile.

Any good ideas for a Shabbos in DC?

We would be going with 4 kids, one of whom is under 3 years old, so I'm thinking that proximity to the POIs is very important.

I'm looking to spend under 200 for each room.

The Westin City Center is available for 129.

Has anyone done this for Shabbos? I'd appreciate any recommendations.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

Just spent the week at DC (Sun-Thurs).
Stayed at Marriot Wardman Park for $85/night - booked through Priceline. Decent hotel, but nothing special.
Its close to the Zoo but not really close to the other attractions - however, the hotel basically sits on the area's Metro station so we took the subway everywhere. Its really simple and wasn't difficult to navigate (even with our baby's stroller).

Other than the shuls, is there anything in walking distance to do / see on shabbos?

IIRC The Smithsonians are free, if you are staying near by.
In General, DC is a nice and calm city to just walk around sight seat the governmental buildings etc, if you like doing that.

The National Zoo is free and you can walk right in. No metal detectors or security.

Totally forgot about them!
If you stay near the National Mall, you have the monuments and the mall itself.

That sounds great! Has anyone done it on Shabbos?

Have not done it on shabbos, but one downside to the zoo is that it is not close to most of the other attractions in DC.
It's a 5-7 minute walk from Marriott Wardman Park.

Is there anything else that can be done on Shabbos? If I stayed near the white house, what would we be able to do on foot, no metal detectors and ID?

Anyone know the deal with weekday Mincha minyanim in DC (not Silver Spring etc..)?

I don't seem to find very useful info online.
