Just 1 billing cycle should do, as long as you don't change the statement closing date (that can actually delay your points)

I plan to open the new Citi Executive card so i can continue earning "elite" miles on a cc for the next year...would there be any harm in trying to apply for a 75k card in another browser at the same time? I have had several and have 1 currently open as well. I havent applied for a citi card since 6/21/11.

Anyone have thoughts?

Once the miles post, is there any reason to hold on to a Citi AA Consumer card?

FYI, before cancelling, try your hand with the retentions department. See here.

Thanks for the tip, AJK.  :)
If I was only thinking about ditching the card because of the fee, I would call retention. But I'm hoping to churn - so the sooner I get rid of the card, the sooner I can apply. I was just wondering if there are any reasons to hold on to the card.

Nah, you can call retention now for other goodies, like increased points when spending, etc. See the thread.

Pretty sure cancelling the Citi AA card is not required to churn. Just need the 18-24 months.

Awesome info! Thanks AJK.
Ok, 16 pages.... here we go!

...

It worked! Thanks!

Me: I'm not sure the card is for me.
Rep: Why?
Me: Well, it has an annual fee and it's a card that I'm not really using.
Rep: I see you only made one purchase. Would you like an $85 statement credit? I can also give you 750 bonus miles if you make $750 in purchases, and I can apply that to each of your next 12 statements.
Me: Yes! 8)

Again, thanks AJK!

Ok, thanks for pointing that out. Forgot about that.
BTW: I'm planning a trip in Feb (Bos to Las). If I book now and reduced mileage is later announced for this route, think I would be able to get my miles back?

Hi everyone. About a year ago, when Dan came out with the info on getting 75000 AA miles for each card, I took two and my wife took two (we already have MC). Each of us got 150,000 miles. We got business class tickets to Israel and were there in August. It worked out great. Now that I have the cards for a year I called to cancel. They either took off the $85 fee from the cards or said if I spend on the card 5 times (even a dollar), I 'll get the credit. SO I'm keeping them. The guy also told me you can have multiple cards of the same type, like more than one Visa card.
Soooo, my question is, is there still out there the availability of getting a 75,000 or 100,000 bonus on any Citi cards? I'd love to do it again. Any ideas?

Who decided on this 18-24 month thing?  I've done it more often than that.

Who decided? Certainly not me.

But the collective consensus (if, of course, you can rely on the 500+ page thread on FT as a representative sample) is 18-24 months.

But, as you are well-aware, YMMV.

Ok Dan, don't hold out on us. In your experience, how often can one get a new AA card?

I've done it in 60 days and been rejected after much longer than that.
Hence, YMMV.
