Got approved today for the personal AMEX 50+50, and the Visa app is still in process. Holding my breath. I'll be happy if I get even one.

Nice. I got approved for 75k the first time around (even though I had an open AA card), then round two and three of applications I got shot down, either for multiple applications or the offer only being for new cardholders.

bottom line, (too many pages here), what is the best one to try for an existing Aadvantage cardholder, and if never a cardholder before, how many cards in total is guaranteed (besides credit score of course etc) to get approved without the "existing cardholder" blah blah blah thing?

I just applied and got approved for both personal Visa and AMEX 100k AA cards, and I've been a churner. I applied for both in two different browsers at the same time. The last time I got approved for any personal AA card was over a year ago (but a few apps and denials in between). I'm holding my breath until I actually get those cards in the mail.

For someone who never had a Citi AA card before, Id' apply for 2 or 3 in one shot (different browsers). They'd likely get at least one. Though nothing is certain with Citi, it's all YMMV.

The second post in this FT thread has a pretty good summary.

Okay, I looked at it more carefully now, there are two cards, a world MC and Amex. The enclosure says these replace my original mc (and the mc is the same number). And they enclosed an amex card for good measure("now you have two cards to earn more miles"). They earn 1.2 miles per $1. I was confused since I just applied recently for the new cards, visa and amex. Seeing the amex card threw me off. From the enclosure it looks like they issued an amex card without me asking for it. But since I did apply is it possible that I'd still get the miles?

Seems I'm not the only one who got double cards, on FT there is a thread about it, I'm just a little upset since they got my hopes up that I was approved. I will not be activating these cards, and soon will probably cancel my whole account with them with hopes to apply sometime for a bonus.

Applied for my wife (who already has had AA cards) and all her apps were denied due to the first-time clause :(
Apparently they like me more than her.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

You're risking them charging you for the miles at a prevailing rate (2cpm or more)

They might, and if the do it will be quite a bit. You might want to do other spending on the card.
