n00bs (both ways) with the wisdom of the old folks is the best advantage  ::)

N00bing out* on DDF and wisdom are mutually exclusive IMHO.

I know this is a noobie question - but I could not find an answer in this entire thread!

I had 4 hard pulls in the last three moths (with one of them being just under two weeks ago), does it make sense to apply for 2 city cards now, or I should wait?

(before the last pull, my Credit Score was 715.)

It all depends on what issuers pull from what bureau in your state/area. If Citi pulls from a different bureau than your recent apps, then obviously no problem. Are you considering the 75k/100k AA offers? If yes, are you churning? Also, do you have other existing credit lines with Citi that you'd consider closing?

I live in Brooklyn, if that helps.

No. I never had a Citi account before. (I had an AA account though.)

Hmmmph, I say go for three AA 75/100k offers in different browsers. If you live in Brooklyn Citi will probably be the only issuer that pulls your Equifax. To be sure, sign up for Identity Monitor 30 day trial for $1 (don't forget to cancel), upgrade to the 3-bureau report and you should see most of your credit pulls on Experian (maybe some on TU), if this is the case you should be safe with three apps.

Great, I will do that!

I was only going to do 2, as I only see 2 75K offers. I guess you're saying that I have nothing to lose to go for three and earn an extra 50K...

BTW, lets say I make a bank account at my sister who lives in MD, I can -- have to -- start this whole game over??? (that is scary! :-X :-X :-X)

See here for links to the three 75k ($1,500 spent within 4/6 months) and the three 100k offers ($10,000 spent within a year). For the business card use your SSN for the taxID/EIN, say it's a sole proprietorship and fudge the rest of it ;)

Start what game over? ??? ::)

Many in NJ have repored Experian for Amex, Chase and Citi. :(

Thank you AsherO, I appreciate your help! GN

So I did the three browser for Citi AA - didn't get instant approval on any.

Today, got approved for the 2 personal and denied for the business due to multiple applications.  I tried arguing that business should be separate but to no avail - CSR rep said max application they could process at a time was 2 and that I need to wait 90 days to apply for business.  I have a personal MC and recently closed my business Visa.

I guess 2/3 is not bad - now just need to spend 20K.

Does it make sense to apply for the citi AMAX if I just applied for a different amax, or I should wait until the month ends and improve my chances in getting accepted with AMAX?

I'll call on Monday to get the AMAX approved.

The Amex you get from Citi isn't a "real" American Express amex card - it just uses the amex network for processing, terms, etc...  For "real" amex cards, american express is the issuer and the processor - for the citi card, citi is the issuer and amex is the processor.   Amex will see your charges as they process it but has no involvement otherwise (credit check, worthiness, approve, decline, etc....)

You applied for a business card and don't have a business?  :-O  I take it you picked the Sole Proprietor button on the app?  It's easy to get approved without an EIN, you just need to have a business name.  What do you do in your day job?  I'm sure you have a sideline/moonlighting business in the same field, called Nitantnel Consulting, right?  And since it's the same as your day job, you can answer the rudimentary question about what does your business do when they ask you that.  The hard part will be if they ask for a tax form, but you just say that the business is new, that's why you want a credit card - to keep expenses separate for bookkeeping.  If you used a completely different name on the app, then they might be asking for your dba (doing business as) papers.  You generally don't need them if your business uses your name.  Anyways, more info gets a better answer...

Oh, and it's amEx...

Thank you for both of your replies!

I didn't see the option of "Sole Proprietor," I did write that my business address is the same as my home address - if that's what it means.

They told me I should send in either a utility bill, bank statement, lease or rent statement, and insurance statement  with my name of business on it. (They mentioned more but I didn't care to listen as I have none of anything...) What did I say my business is? "Outreach" - which could mean anything. That's all the information involved.
