FAQs
Do I need a passport to travel to the USVI?
The USVI are United States territories and so travel to and from the islands does not require a passport (for U.S. citizens). With that said you will need to prove, upon return, that you are a U.S. citizen and so a birth certificate or gov't issued ID will be needed. ALSO NOTE: The USVI are part of a greater chain of islands including the British Virgin Islands. If you intend on visiting some of the other islands you may very well need your passport. Best to do you research beforehand.

Will I need to go through customs?
Not on the way in, but all passengers leaving STT must clear customs. No fruits or vegetables are allowed off the island.

Do U.S. cellphones work in the U.S. Virgin Islands?
Yes. However be sure to check with you carrier to see if there will be extra roaming charges. Verizon does not charge extra for data but talk is about $2/minute. Also be careful if you are next to the British islands because if your cellphone catches a tower over there you will be charged as if you're calling from England.

Thanks.  I found the chabad site also.  I searched this forum as well as the whole ddf and didn't seem to find anything other than cruises passing through there.  I am hoping to hear from someone who has been there.

I've been there on a cruise. I guess that is not really any help.

There is a dedicated Caribbean thread here, may pay to read it.

US Virgin Islands Master Thread

There's a bunch of scattered info in this forum on the USVI and a really old master thread. I thought starting a new master thread with a wiki would be a good idea.

I spent a week last January in St John and absolutely fell in love with the USVI. I'm taking my wife back for a one day trip next week (call me crazy).

Here are some of the existing threads on the topic:

I figured the old one has been inactive for about 1.5 years... Not much more thought went into it :) We can keep the old one if thats what the general consensus is. Either way lets get all the info and talk into one thread.

The point of a master thread is that there is only one place with all the info. Starting a new master thread accomplishes nothing other than annoying people and making the forums more cluttered.

All this info should have gone into the original thread.

USVI are U.S. territories and therefore U.S. citizens do not need to show their passports. With that said you will need proof of U.S. citizenship like a birth certificate or gov't issued ID.

Is a copy of a birth certificate good enough or I need the original?

Get $300 spending voucher per person for cultural tours and outdoor activities if you book a 2017 stay via the official Visit VI site. If you visit in march you'll get a "special gift" as well.

See the second entry here for more details and a list of participating hotels.
