Does anyone have experience traveling with a lulav on an airplane, where do you put it on the plane, etc.

get on of those newish black rifle cases they've been selling for lulavim.  They're great. The have three velcro straps that immobilize the lulav, the back is some sort of flexible hard plastic frame with a tough canvas like cover. After I got that case I started putting it in the overhead bin. never had a problem

never had an issue, though I have the shorter one and cut my lulav accordingly.

I cut a PVC pipe to the same length as my lulav then I stuck my lulav in with the bottom sticking out an inch and taped the the bottom to the pipe, this way the top of the pipe was an inch taller than the lulav which was inside so nothing can hit the top of the lulav, it can't slide up or down cuz it's taped at the bottom and the plastic pipe barely bends so I didn't have worry about that either. I've done this handheld and check-in(once when the TSA guy didn't let me through with it saying its a weapon like  item, when I showed him it was just holding a branch he said oh don't worry there'll be plenty of those in LA)

Only once.  Airtran LGA-CAK.  I got through security in NY no problem.  I was worried that they wouldn't let it on the plane but no one said anything.  I was actually carrying 2. they were both in one of those green plastic tube-like lulav holders.  I had a window seat and I just propped it up against the wall of the plane  and the seat in front.  The only one who seemed to notice was the 'goy' sitting next to me.  He said "there must be a story behind whatever you've got in there".  I told him it was for religious purposes, for the Holiday.  He says "oh yeah, I read all about those in the NY Times."  What a country.  :)

I think its time to combine all threads with this topic.

Any issue bringing daled minim back and forth over border?

In the past 10 years I have never had issues driving or flying. Last year there was a commercial issue that was resolved.
