I would some you need to export/import it at the border (at least that's the way it works in the other direction)

DO you know if there is anyway to do it once the car is already in for a month?

:( Really don't want to do that, anyone know if I have any other options?
Pretty sure not. You know you'll also have to pay taxes on it?

Even If I'm getting it for free? sounds like to much work, ain't worth it. I wish there was a way to do it locally.

Anyone have any experience with registering a Canadian car in the states? I have a car from Canada that's in Brooklyn and I want to change the registration over anyone have any advise on how this works?

Thanks.
Why can't you keep it registered in Canada? I would think it makes sense to do other way around, but cars are worth more in Canada, no?

+1 keep it as a candian car... when they give you problems you worry then.

Just a guess, but I'd say 20% of license plates in NY are out of state/country...

Wanted to ask you, did you ever get in to a accident? what happens if one does with Canadian plates, can't the insurance just call the border to see when the car entered? thoughts?

thanks. Do you Remember in which cases they won't let it?
this was 6 years ago so I don't. I do know we were trying to bring in an 01 Odyssey and it wasn't simple. YMMV...

Car 1 - yes but no other car involved... No full coverage, junked car...
Car 2 BH no
Car 3 BH no
I was student most of the time btw. I'm sure there is some level of risk, but at the time my options were to pay ins as a young driver in NY/free car ins. cause that's how it is when you take a car from home...
Not sure if border would disclose info to ins company, shouldn't there be some sort of privacy law?
Now if someone already was in accident, I'd think that driving the car after that would be too risky...
Anyone else??
