IME it does cause harm Amex slashed my limit for carrying a 1k balance for a few months (mini FR phone call) with a excellent payment record and no negatives whatsoever.

If you have a strong established credit file carrying a large balance is no big deal. For most here (short credit history) I would not recommend it.

It's definitely possible especially if you report that you make an income though nobody could possible tell you the odds of approval esp given that recon is always YMMV.

You can only cancel by phone (not online the way I signed up) and only by day when the call center is open (again not the way I signed up at night). She needed everything from my ss to my address.
The lady was very yenti with all kinds of questions when I told her I was closing the account. I told her nothing but I hope they don't trap people into long term deals by the answers they give. (Like the 3 month lock in:))

I didn't find it so hard. I called put the phone on speaker, when someone answered I gave all my info and just said cancel everything, no reason, just cancel I gtg bye.

how does average age work? if I open a card it automatically reduces it....but when I close it can it technically go back up or it still affects the score?

All accounts count towards AAoA (Average Age of Accounts). It does not care if it is open or closed. If it shows on your report it counts!
