Than I guess SM is the way to go.
(BTW, once an SM rep misunderstood me and removed one of my closed cards from my online profile. Since it was closed, the system wouldn't let me manually re-add it, but after I SM'd, they re-added it and now I see it online. Maybe it will work for old cards as well)

Yes but it seems they stay 9-12 months most of the time.

Ok so the account was closed I must have clicked on hide account on profile and then residual interest hit the account after closure and it wast paid for 30 days. This happened in July of 2013 and chase is saying that I should jump in the lake as they are required by federal law to report accurately. Am I up the creek as far as this goes or is it something I can HUCA about?

There's no law that requires them to report anything. Only that if they choose to report, then it must be accurate.
You have a good chance of getting this removed by working with them. Explain the situation and that you do a lot of business with them. I'm not an expert with these things, but if you Google it, I'm sure you'll find more relevant info.

Good will letter is your answer. I have suggested other members go this route and they had great success.

I think that worked! Sent a bit earlier via SM and they just responded that they notified all 3 bureaus to removed the account from their records. Phew!
