I just got back with Amex after an F/R shutdown a year ago, they sent me a card that said "since 2013", I called and they corrected it in their system to "Since 2004", the year I got my first Amex card (I'm not an AU). He even offered to send me a new card with the update, I said no thanks.

I had same thing, but didn't call them to correct. When I upgraded to the Plat it automatically had it as 2003.

So will a non-backdated account have a negative impact on the AU's credit?

If it's in bad standing (high spending ratio....) or reduces his overall average account age, yes, but for someone with little or no credit, it will only help (granted it's in good standing).

I'm the OP of this thread. I am telling you. I spoke to the credit bureau reporting dept at Amex. They don't backdate anymore.

Not only is this what they told me, but I see for myself that my new SPG personal says '92 (date of my green card) and my wife's AU card says '13.

Maybe some people have slick ways of getting them to bend the rules, but these are the rules.
You gotta start believing more what you read here than what reps tell you on the phone.

It seems like a few people in this thread don't understand how Amex backdating AU's work.

The "Amex credit bureau"  doesn't backdated anything.  The system automatically gives the AU the same "member since"  dates as the primary card holder.
FWIU it's not something that's specifically done intentionally.

Please stop calling about it.  Bringing this to their attention over and over again can only makes things worse.

So how do you explain his wife's card saying '13?

It may depend on the card. I was an AU since 2007 and signed up for my own Delta card in 2012 which was backdated to 2007. I signed up for the SPG a few months later and it wasn't backdated (2013).

However, even though my SPG card says member since 2013, my credit report shows the account as being opened in 2007

This doesn't prove that they're still backdating new users, just that your "member since xxxx" info on the card isn't very useful

I opened a few on my wife's account. Just checked and they're showing up as new accounts. She needs to increase the average age of her accounts, not decrease it. What can I do at this point?

So how will I know if I was backdated or not?

On the topic of backdated AU's, does anyone have a card history that's older than the card holder? I'm curious as to how this scenario plays out and if there are any organizations (AMEX, EQ, EX, TU) that would not count the whole account (or something like this) due to it being an impossibility.

It's possible.

I know it's possible to have a card that's older than you are. I want to know if it raises ANY flags.

No.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half
