Amex Credit Bureau does NOT backdate AUs
« on: August 19, 2013, 04:33:32 PM »
Fellas, I just had a long talk w/ Amex Credit Bureau and received an education on how the backdating actually works.

The whole thing with getting added as an AU to an older account used to work. They stopped doing that in Nov of 2011. If you were added as an AU before that date, then your account will backdate to the primary. If you were added after Nov 2011, it does not work. You will have your own account opened date.

However, backdating is very helpful still in one way. ALL of your Amex personal cards will backdate to the date of your membership. I had a CS rep who swore up and down that it ain't so, but the Credit Bureau Dept at Amex told me that CS doesn't know what they talkin' 'bout. (Shocking, I know.) In my case, I have a 22 year old Green Card. This month I opened SPG and Delta Gold personal cards and they will both report as having been opened in my membership year of 1992.

If you are interested in a technicality, I will tell you that the MONTH of the newer account will show as the actual month that it was opened. The YEAR however will show as the membership year based on the oldest card.

Daughter turned 18 in the middle of last year and they backdated it for her.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

why not?

Bec I already have a pretty good score. Although the person i want to become an AU on also has a decent score, I dont need the headache of worrying about it if it doesn't work anymore. Hence my question.

CV, you made me feel great just knowing that I'm not the only guy on this forum who's not calculating how many more AORs he can pull off before the new zman.

Is the card older than she is?

I think it depends on the card you get.
I got a new SPG and it said since 13 (as an AU and as a personal card)
I got the Costco card and it says since 05
I only paid 15% by switching to dansdeals

Did you try calling to have it corrected?

I'm the OP of this thread. I am telling you. I spoke to the credit bureau reporting dept at Amex. They don't backdate anymore.

Not only is this what they told me, but I see for myself that my new SPG personal says '92 (date of my green card) and my wife's AU card says '13.

Maybe some people have slick ways of getting them to bend the rules, but these are the rules.

Someone tried backdating me recently and it hasn't  worked even after multiple HUCAs and ideas?

I just got back with Amex after an F/R shutdown a year ago, they sent me a card that said "since 2013", I called and they corrected it in their system to "Since 2004", the year I got my first Amex card (I'm not an AU). He even offered to send me a new card with the update, I said no thanks.
