Good economy award values from/in US
« on: August 21, 2013, 12:25:05 PM »
Hi - I was wondering if there were any other relatively good award values for economy flights in the US (or North America) other than the BA-Avios (and LAN) options for short haul flights.

My apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but I couldn't find a thread on this topic specifically.

thx

UA has some flights at 20k  RT within the US. In general a good value would be an expensive ticket e.g. JFk - MIA at $150 vs 25k AA miles would be terrible, but if the same ticket is going for $600 that would be considered a good value even with AA. Obviously for that ticket you can use BA, but that's not always an option.

Depends where you live and where you want to go.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Depends where you live and where you want to go.

I'm in NYC (and I'm trying to plan some family trips with no particular destination in mind).
I was not looking at any destination in particular. Just wondering whether there are any other award options from the US that are better than the standard 25k-40k awards to US, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean.  I know Avios bookings are a great option for short-haul flights, but I would appreciate any suggestions if there are any other options to consider with relatively good value.

thank you

I think next after BA is LH (24k as opposed to 25k with UA, AA or US).
You gotta have to book it as 2 OWs.

And they really shine in domestic F (34k. As opposed to other US airlines who charge 50k).
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

I like UAs 10K short-hauls.  Excellent from CLE where most of their flights are short-hauls.

I actually burn my delta miles on last minute domestic trips. No close in fee and usually availability gets better as you get closer to the flight. I honestly can't find any better use for them.

But that's only for real short ones.
I used it once for a last minute trip to DC.

Like I said, from CLE it's great.
ATL, BOS, BWI MCI, NYC, MEM, MSP, ORD, YUL, YYZ, etc.
Plus it doesn't need to be nonstop.
