Topic Wiki

Certificates may be redeemed at any Hilton category, including the most prestigious properties such as The Waldorf Jerusalem and The Waldorf Maldives, provided that "Standard Room Reward" availability is present. It should be noted that securing standard room availability at high-category properties, particularly during peak periods, may be quite challenging or even impossible.

To obtain a certificate, the certificate holder typically initiates the process by calling to make a reservation under their name. Subsequently, the certificate buyer is added as a second check-in guest. However, it is important to note that this approach is generally not favored by hotels. As such, it is advisable to approach the process with tact to ensure a smooth experience.

What's the consensus on refund/credit if a 2nd guest is unable to check in due to hotel requiring the primary for some reason? If the guest can't check in, but the owner at the same time loses their nights, is there a refund expected? If the nights go back to the owner, it's easy to issue a refund, but what about when the nights are gone? I'm guessing discuss this scenario during the sale?

Was 2d guest added to reservation? Was anything discussed beforehand?

What property was this?  I've never heard of a Hilton rejecting a second guest at check in.  I've confirmed with Hilton customer service multiple times that second guest can always check in with an ID and credit card.

Both parties need to work together , but at the end of the day, a certificate was purchased, not a reservation. I believe the “risk” is on the person who purchases it , unless seller and buyer agree that seller guarantees it will work.

This is somewhat common overseas, especially London, Amsterdam, and Others, even if person is on the reservation, hotel can always deny….

I understand what you are saying but it seems silly to enforce the deal semantically (i.e., the buyer is purchasing a certificate and not a reservation). The buyer is obviously buying the certificate under the pretense that it can be successfully used. Like you mentioned, I think that people should work together to find a resolution if an issue arises.

Nothing happened, I'm just curious what others set as rules during their transactions specifically if the hotel decides to play hardball and refuse a check-in without a primary. I normally tend not to book overseas for that specific reason.

Is there a rule/T&C the primary must be present?!

Oh so that was a hypothetical and didn't actually happen at a Hilton property?

I've had it happen at Hyatt properties in Hawaii.

don't think so, but none of T&Cs says that the 2nd guest can check in till the acct holder arrives.. so ymmv; if a check-in agent / mgr insisted that the acct holder needs to be there to check in, not sure a call to the diamond desk / Corp. will likely help either

In the app when you edit guest info it clearly states "To allow another guest to check in as they arrive, add their name below"
