I've heard it argued that your typical pet dog 2,000 years ago is not the same as your typical dog today.
Dogs have become a lot less dangerous through breeding etc.
I can't say I know a lot about this - maybe CV could educate the grasshoppers.

But before I begin asking, I would like to apologize in advance - as none of my family or friends own a dog -  my questions may seem ignorant and maybe offensive. so please understand.

In the times of the Gemoro, the fear was based on real concerns.
Fear in our times is most likely bred by ignorance, so the cure would be education and controlled exposure - not banning.
I imagine your community are just as scared of cats and mice - maybe ban them too!

I am not a big dog-lover, so I don't mind if it is not removed.
However, I am just pointing out the argument that the ban might not apply in the first place to modern bred dogs.
