Luggage on Elal
« on: August 30, 2013, 12:41:39 PM »
Are the people at Elal real sticklers about not going over 50 pounds of luggage?

If my suitcase is 52 pounds, will they let it slide?

They once charged my parents for 52 pounds - or maybe it was even 51 pounds. Conversely, I got away with close to 60 pounds more than once.

Just to follow up on what happened, we ended up taking a total of over 220 pounds in check in luggage (up from 200 allowed (4 bags of 50 pounds) and two carry ons weighing over 20 pounds each. They were oversized and had to be checked underneath at boarding time but that was OK with us, we just wanted to get as much of our stuff as possible to Israel.

You conveniently neglected to mention whether they charged you for the overweight or not...

I had a different question re size.  We sent our daughter and wouldn't let her use the bags bigger than whatever inches they limit.  Turns out almost everyone else did and had no problem.

Two of our bags were oversized duffel bags and they got on without problem. The thing is, we were fed to Elal by Westjet, and they were the ones that accepted the luggage so maybe it was different

actually airlines do, but elal don't. Until not so long ago they officially let you have an extra 5 pounds over for kosher food etc

Exactly, but I've had to do that on several occasions.
