According to Dan: The nights post within a week of spending, regardless of statement close.
They expire 12-13 months from posting and can typically be extended by 1 more month by emailing Hyatt.

Best offer out there for now: (Thanks DoGo!)
Go to Hyatt.com make a reservation, click book, and before cc page you will see offer for card with the 2 free nights PLUS $50 statement credit. Looks something like this

Anniversary nights appear in account before annual fee posts.

The 2 free nights showed up in my account last night(first spend was on July 1). This morn I called chase to cancel the hyatt and get the sapphire opened but I was told that they can't do a closure on my hyatt since it's open less than six months. Does anyone have experience with this. Is it just a matter of getting a different rep.?

Methinks different reps enforce different policies (or enforce the same policies differently).

Hight have to do with creating a Hyatt number? Who knows. Chase does this all the time, there's a certain processing-time window/status during which they won't let you recon. that app.

They would be under your my awards section on your hyatt account page.

Might work the same way as Hyatt point transfers.

Methinks different reps enforce different policies (or enforce the same policies differently).

How right you are!! I called this morning and got a rep. who was able to approve the sapphire by moving around my credit lines without closing any cards!! all other reps until him said that that was impossible to do for me! Now my debate is whether to close the hyatt card anyway to save myself from the annual fee or to just chalk it up as "business" expense.

They still haven't charged you the fee? More than 11 days after the posting of the two nights? Wow...

they did charge the fee. However there are reports of getting it off within 30 or 60 days.

Right, right - forgot. With regard to keeping/cancelling, why would you keep? Do you have a particular reason to keep it alive, e.g. stay at Hyatt a lot?

The only other reason you may want to keep it, AFAIK, would be to use it as a bargaining chip for your next round of application(s).

If you cancel, let us know if you succeed in getting the fee removed.

+1

But for that you can try to switch to a fee free card.

Hyatt does run promos for cardholders.
I got 15K during the past 10K promo because I was a cardholder.

Who knows, maybe they'll even do an FFN only for cardholders?

I think the Platinum status will stay on your Hyatt account (until it expires) even if you cancel the card, please CMIIW.

Truth is I don't plan on staying in hyatts much more than my 2 free nights. The reason I was thinking to keep it open was in order not to drop that credit line. Also Dan has a good point about cardholder deals. I actually remember seeing on FT about cardholder specials on the anniversary of the hyatt card.

I would use it while you're still diamond just to be safe.
No matter when you use it in August  2011 the nights should expire September 30, 2012.
