According to Dan: The nights post within a week of spending, regardless of statement close.
They expire 12-13 months from posting and can typically be extended by 1 more month by emailing Hyatt.

Best offer out there for now: (Thanks DoGo!)
Go to Hyatt.com make a reservation, click book, and before cc page you will see offer for card with the 2 free nights PLUS $50 statement credit. Looks something like this

Anniversary nights appear in account before annual fee posts.

If that's so it looks as though the free nights are given based on the status of your account (diamond/platinum/etc) when they are earned, and not as of when you applied.

Interesting... seems we all have to make our first purchases before our diamond match expires!

Huh? Chaikel was given the stays that a non-diamond would get and had to email to get them changed to suites.
Hyatt CS bent over backwards (typical IME) and gave it to him.

I didn't realize that it was based on the status at the time of application until after I applied.

Does anyone know when my Hyatt Platinum status (obtained from the Hyatt Visa) will eventually expire if I cancel my card?  I.e., is it like airline status, where if you qualify after a date (e.g., July 1, year 1), it expires in February of year 3?

I got my card in October.  When the fee comes due, I plan on cancelling (b/c I have the Sapphire card).  However, I'll drag my feet for 60 days if it extends my Hyatt Plat status.

Thanks

Update: This card now comes with a free category 1-4 night every year upon renewal.

That ought to cover the $75 fee.

Will those who already have the card receive that free night as well?

I wish they gave you the option to pay a little more to use the free night at a Cat 5 or 6.  E.g., $30 more to use at Cat 5 and $60 more for a Cat 6.

Yup, but there are plenty of very nice cat. 4 hotels that would all prob be 5-6 with SPG for example.
PH MEL (highly reccomended!), PH ICN, HR Curacao, HR HKG, GH PEK, GH PVG, GH Macau, GH IST, Andaz WeHo, HR Chicago, Miami at the Blue, HR Fisherman's Wharf, etc, etc.

My wife and I both received emails stating that our (respective) cards are on their way. I applied for mine about 1 1/2 months ago, and my wife's 2 weeks ago. Go figure...

Is it worth keeping the Hyatt card?
« Reply #273 on: August 10, 2011, 09:40:40 AM »
Hi all,

After my wife's Hyatt card arrived, I noticed that they bill the annual fee the first year (for some reason, I thought the first year was free like many other Chase cards). This makes it significantly less appealing. So I was wondering... once I get my signup bonus, is it really worth keeping the card? I can earn Hyatt points and pay no forex fees using my Sapphire Preferred... so what else does the Hyatt card do for me that makes it worth the hefty annual fee?

Hefty? $75 for 2 hotel nights anywhere in the world. Sounds like a good deal to me.

He's asking if its worth it to keep the card AFTER he gets the two nights. Chase has been known to refund AF's up 30 days after the issuance, IIRC.

In other words, he needs to ask himself if the hyatt status and 1 FN at a Cat 1-4 hotel is worth it for $75.

Besides for the Hyatt Platinum status and the annual free night upon renewal there are also occasional Hyatt promos that are only for cardholders.
