According to Dan: The nights post within a week of spending, regardless of statement close.
They expire 12-13 months from posting and can typically be extended by 1 more month by emailing Hyatt.

Best offer out there for now: (Thanks DoGo!)
Go to Hyatt.com make a reservation, click book, and before cc page you will see offer for card with the 2 free nights PLUS $50 statement credit. Looks something like this

Anniversary nights appear in account before annual fee posts.

Right. Apparently he's saying it won't work with TY points. (unlike airline tix)

unless all he was saying is that earning hotel points is different than earning miles but that doesn't for sure mean you can't use the upgrade

So then, why mention that at all?

You were asking about the possibility of an upgrade, right?

All I said was that with TY points you earn miles, so that in that way, its like more like a revenue ticket than an award ticket.

Setting aside whether you earn points for the hotel stay, if it--like airlines tix--is more like a revenue stay than an award stay, then the upgrade should work.

Hope that makes sense.

But that is not true. Airline is different than hotels. You won't earn points and you won't be eligible for an upgrade.

I hope that makes sense

Yes that you tried using an upgrade on a reservation made with Ty points and they didn't let you?

Generally speaking these programs book as a group rate and aren't eligible for SWUs etc. Not sure about automatic upgrades based on status

Does anyone know if the free suite upgrade can be used on rooms booked with citi ty points?

While I don't have personal experience, it would seem that it should work.

...just like booking a ticket with TY points and you earn miles, i.e. it's not an award ticket.

Not like that at all in fact.  You only earn hotel points when booking direct.

unless all he was saying is that earning hotel points is different than earning miles but that doesn't for sure mean you can't use the upgrade

So then, why mention that at all?
Because you made a terrible comparison between flights booked with TY points to hotels booked with TY points.

My point was there is no comparison between flights and hotels because flights booked anywhere online earn miles while hotels booked anywhere online besides directly from the hotel do not earn points or status.

Now with upgrades and bennies, those are always YMMV, as hotel managers have lots of discretion, but my point was simply to learn a lesson about hotels from flights booked via a 3rd party is simply wrong.

I appreciate the lesson.

I began saying I didn't "have any personal experience," but then made my best educated guess as to what might happen, knowing full well that you (or someone else) would jump on me like a pack of dogs on a three-legged cat if my educated guess was incorrect. Thus is the virtual world of DDF :P

All things considered, I still don't think it was that "terrible" of an educated guess, but we are all wiser in the end, me especially.

Recieved my card on the 12th spent the $1000 on the 13th and today, the 19th, i saw my 2 free nights posted!
Thanks everyone, for the advice
Did you do anything special like move your statement date strategically to expedite this? I just got 2 cards and spent the money today.

I'd really like to lock in 4 nights from my wife and I's cards- there are standard rooms available as of now but I fear they may disappear as we have booked a trip during a very busy time.  Should I just learn some patience and wait it out or should I try to book them on my card and convert to the free night certificates later?

Don't mess with the statement date. Most times it'll just end up pushing off the receipt of the sign up bonus, instead of expediting it.

Either/or. But people have had success with the latter.

P.S. Welcome to the forums.

Random Question: Is the free suite nights based on when you apply for the card? or when the card is approved? my hunch is that its when the card is approved because thats when they contact hyatt. I ask because someone applied for the card as a platinum member but matched to a diamond trial shortly after. By the time she was approved he was diamond but just wondering if that is enough to get free suite nights

Edit:
Just called and a rep confirmed my suspicions. I'm still not totally convinced, as reps can often be wrong,  ::) but she notated the account...
In case anyone is wondering/cares, the 2 free nights are suite nights!
