According to Dan: The nights post within a week of spending, regardless of statement close.
They expire 12-13 months from posting and can typically be extended by 1 more month by emailing Hyatt.

Best offer out there for now: (Thanks DoGo!)
Go to Hyatt.com make a reservation, click book, and before cc page you will see offer for card with the 2 free nights PLUS $50 statement credit. Looks something like this

Anniversary nights appear in account before annual fee posts.

Yes, AFAIK. I believe that card is only for incidentals.

Got the Hyatt Card on 12/2, made the purchases and the 2 free nights deposited on 12/20, points deposited on 12/28 and I cancelled before the New Year to get the $75 yearly fee back.  Strangely enough I got an e-mail from Hyatt on 1/2 which said "
Congratulations, you have earned an additional Award Night. You can expect your Award Night to be deposited to your Hyatt Gold Passport™ account within the next 10 days."  I waited for 10 days and no additional award night showed up so I e-mail'ed them and they said this e-mail was referring to the 2 nights I earned with my credit card.  This sounds a bit fishy to me.  I read some folks had gotten an additional anniversary night well before the first year but the language in the e-mail I got does not resemble what I read in this thread from people who got that night.  Think I have any shot if I pester them enough that I'll get another night?

I don't think they get notified instantly when you cancel, if at all.

so if lets say i open an account and close it 2 weeks later you are telling me that hyatt wont know? In that case there is no need to call because he will receive the anniversary night anyways cuz they will assume that the account is still open.Does not make sense to me but  if you say so.

+1, I've wondered the same thing, and pretty much sure they don't get notified (at least not instantly).
