Sprint Upgrade
« on: August 05, 2010, 07:39:01 PM »
I have a few lines that are eligible for upgrade on Sprint, anyone interested in buying the upgrade rights.

Basically, I would order a new phone for you from the third party reseller of your choice (or from Sprint themselves). You would pay the upgrade price on the phone, and any taxes, and pay me for using my upgrade. I am averse to buying from online resellers like wirefly,

I won't entertain any lowball offers. I recently renewed and got two EVOs for $199 each, and flipped them for $450 each. If all goes well I'll also be getting a $100 MIR for each of those.

Best upgrade prices for the phones you listed seem to be $199 for the Epic and Free for the Intercept (via online reseller, you need to have an everything data plan or you risk your plan getting messed up).

eBay going rate seems to be $370 for Epic and ~$210 for Intercept. On craigslist, $350 for the Epic (didn't see any BNIB Intercepts). All prices as of time of this posting.

I'd definitely say it's safer. But most legacy plans are not eligible for an Epic/Evo and it's virtually impossible to activate those phones (let alone get an upgrade) on such plans.

What plan do you have? If it's a F&F or F&C/F&CA then you won't be able to upgrade to an Evo/Epic. If you're on SERO/EPRP then you need to first get SERO premium.

i want to 'upgrade' to it without activating and resell it for the buyer to activate on buyer's own plan
would the store not sell me a phone which can't be activated?

Impossible AFAIK. Try it online, I bet you'll suddenly find out your plan changed, good luck getting a legacy plan back once it's been changed.

i thought they only change the plan when you activate the phone (regardless where you buy it)
when you buy the phone they also switch the plan?

If you're a current customer upgrading to one of these devices
After you receive your new device, you can activate it online. If you don't already have one of the data plans we offer today, you'll need to select one of the data plans listed above.

Try it at your own risk, I don't think what you're trying will work. Besides, if you upgrade @ Sprint.com, the EVO/Epic have a $100 MIR which you might not be eligible for if you don't activate.

I'm currently on an everything data family plan. It's $129.99 with $20 off and 27% off, it comes out to like $85 after taxes/surcharges.

anyone have experience in this?
on a legacy plan, to upgrade to non-legacy-available phone, without activating?
do they bump-up your plan right away?
(the language on the site makes it seem like they bump-up on activation)
anyone have experience?

I tried at the store. I asked that he give me upgrade w/o activating, it was a lost cause, they can't give away a phone (at the upgrade price) without it being active on a plan.

They told me the official rule is that it needs to be activated and not used by anyone else (besides the line that initially activated) for six months. I have heard that it's not difficult at all to get around this rule (it's not strongly enforced)

i'm pretty sure you're gonna have a problem.
go to sprint.com; any phone that says "about plans for this phone" is gonna be trouble
