Advice for car rental in Kansas City (MCI)

I'm looking to rent a car for the weekend in MCI but the taxes and fees at the airport are obscene. Does anyone have advice for getting around those airport charges?  Thanks!

They really are obscene there from my recollection of dating days.
Did you look for the nearest off-airport location?

The problem I'm having is that my return flight is Sunday morning at 6am (in order to use the zfv rate). Off airport facilities won't be open then. Maybe I'll return the car off-airport before shabbos and then take a cab to the airport.

Most off-airports have after hours drop off. Usually you ca even use that to your advantage ;)

sometimes they let you pick up at local and drop off at
