FTR, many of those arrangements include an accounting for different standards, and/or different batches.

So, 1) an Israeli hechsher could rely on OU, but insist that certain chumras be followed that OU wouldn't usually insist on.

2) They would require a special run of the product be made according to their specifications.

IOW, the hechsher on one product doesn't prove anything about another product, even made in the same factory, on the same line. Unless you can see that the two items have the same batch number, and even then, only with confirmation from a mashgiach.

Probably a repeat for most, but just saw this again and hoping some can enjoy it,i definitely did.

There are many products which used to be DE and now are just plain D, after OU changed their policy. Oreos happens to not be amongst those, but I'm just saying again that OU stopped certifying anything as DE

Just fyi, I'm pretty sure OU's policy of only OU-D and no DE has been around for decades already. There are other hasgachos that used DE till recently

When I was in Camp Agudah (7 summers ago) I asked R' Belsky about oreos and he said the regular ones are 100% parve and the reason they still have OU-D is because they used to be dairy and they wanted to retain the option to go back. He also said that if it were to change there would be a massive kashrus alert.

Because that's the hechsher they have on it. Eventhough it's not even DE the hechsher is still OU-D

The hechsher that they have on it is whatever they agree with the OU to do, and is documented in the Letter of certification from the OU.
What they write on the package is another thing.

Maybe this is pshat:
For years all Hersheys products from hershey PA were kosher and had no symbol on the packaging. I think that now they require all kosher products to bear a kosher symbol. So Perhaps the OU will not allow a company to write OU-D if its certefied OU pareve? Mimelah, if they want to write OU-D, they need to be certefied as OU-d.

I spoke to someone in the OU who knows what he's talking about, he says Oreos are DE

Confirmed with an OU higher up:

Oreos made in some bakeries are OU and some are DE as they are made on the same lines that use milk chocolate cookies. You can't eat them with meat.
The bakeries ship nationwide and you can't count on which product is which.
OU will not give out the codes to which are parve and which are DE.
Even if you do have the codes they change every year.

It is at least 25 years since they got the psak from R Elyashiv to consider DE to be Na"t bar Na"t d'issura for those keeping cholov yisroel and was concurred with by Rav Schachter and made policy. I don't think they ever had a DE designation and that people are just getting confused.
