Why is chicken given away instead of consumed by your family?
Given to charity

The same thing happens when you hunt for sport.
Hunting for sport is quite different and most rabbis are anti it

Is it not better to add the benefit of charity to the mitzvah?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Why not? Perfect opportunity to feed the poor... Although I remember as a kid we got to pickup our chicken all cleaned a few hours later..

The same thing happens when you hunt for sport. The logic used is the animal will end up in someone's tummy so what is the difference. For the record I have hunted for sport and also consumed everything that was killed.

Hunting is a fun sport from what I see & watch but its animal brutality at its best if you ask me... Ecspecially bow and arrow

So you have a chicken having its throat slit for a religious ritual. Blood squirting out and it running around if it gets loose. Not passing judgment on anyone but can't you see why some would think this is not humane?
So you have a chicken being slaughtered (i know, throat slit sounds more dramatic), blood pouring out (like any slaughter, but sounds gory), and the chicken running around without a head (actually the nerve spasms in the carcass, the chicken isn't capable of doing anything once the communications from the brain are cut off). Sounds straight out if a horror movie. But you forgot to add the worst part, it gets cooked and eaten! Can you imagine how that would sound on a headline?  All of these facts are only relevant if you're concerned about the indignity being done to the body. Since the body is consumed, we're obviously not too worried about that. In terms of pain to the animal, this is scientifically proven to be the most painless method. In other words, from a logical standpoint, these protestors have no standing. Thank goodness intelligence tends not to be their strong point, or is clouded over by an underlying cause. If you want to see abuse to the bodies, look at the millions of chickens destroyed recently. I don't remember hearing about the cruelty to animals then. Strange, no?
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

What's your point that a slaughterhouse is worse than slitting its throat? Has anyone disagreed with that?

My point is that you should just say that am animal is dying. Everything else that's being said is irrelevant.

If we didn't care how animals are treated that would be true.

What if a dog was being used instead of a chicken?

What if a dog was being used instead of a chicken?

would never happen, the meat would need to be thrown in the garbage & the law is that we cannot throw away (good) food
