Amex has announced that this year's Small Business Saturday program will be on November 30, which is Motzai Shabbos Chanukah.

Observant Jews were always limited in taking advantage of this program, and had to do all the shopping on Motzai Shabbos.

But this years timing makes it extremely hard for us (consumers) to enjoy the program and for us (small businesses) to promote our business, because most of us are preoccupied with celebrating the Chanukah.

Maybe we can ask American Express to take us into consideration and adjust the date, so that we can all benefit from the program.

I don't know which route to take, maybe a Twitter campaign (anyone with an appealing hashtag?), maybe some kind of petitioning, or just calling?

Let's share some good ideas how to get it done successfully, and I think the best idea(s) should be put up in the wiki.

It can't hurt. Unless they Change it to another day that doesn't work for us.
I don't know that we're enough people that it's worth it for them to switch it to a Sunday for instance.

Are you wanting them to change SBS to SB-Different Day? Or just in general push off the date this year because it coincides with Chanukah?

No, all we want is just to push it off to, say, the following Saturday - Dec. 7.

This might be their only way to curb the advantage Jews take.

Is there such a thing as small business Saturday or did amex make it up. I remember last year that Obama took part in it.

Amex made it up to counter the impression that they were anti small business because of their larger fees.

you can push as a merchant that the promo should be extended to sunday even monday as it was last year for the merchants who had issues. But please dont make a whole jewish issue

They should extend it for jews(with proof) or those that observe shabbos
