There's a different solution (in many cases) which is much easier and completely hassle-free. Turn over the shelves every two years.  :D

Just to throw one more solution out there, when you buy a new bookcase get extra shelves and double them up. Use good wood glue and staples to bind them together. The double thickness will completely prevent sagging.
I'm an optimist; but only because life isn't going to give me any other good choices.

Staples, almost 5 years and still in great shape.
Same here. 8 years, great shape.

got around 4+ bookshelf's from staples(got them at a great price as well ),just the shelf is sagging, so had to put a wood bar on the sides, but the actual bookshelf is great quality.
