Last year, I applied for and received the SPG Business and Consumer cards in August 2012. I also have a Amex Delta open for a few years now.
A week or so ago, I did a 3BM where I again applied for the SPG Business, SPG Consumer, and Gold cards. I was approved for the SPG Business (even though I have the same card already) and the Gold Card. However, I received an email that I need to call to discuss the SPG Consumer. When I called, I was told 2 things that didn't sound right to me, so I wanted to clarify with the experts here:
1) I was told that there is a 4 card limit on Amex cards, so I can't be approved for an additional card no matter what it is. This doesn't make sense to me, because after my current approval, I already have 5 cards (2x SPG Business, SPG consumer, Delta, and Gold). It also sounds like many members here have way more than 4 cards as well. Is this is a new policy? Is there a way around this? The only way I was told that I could get approval would be cancelling one of my other cards. They wouldn't agree to move some credit from one to the other because the issue was opening another card.
2) I was told that even if I do get this card, I'm not eligible for the 30,000 bonus points promotion because I already have an SPG card open from 2012. Is this correct? Does that mean that on the SPG Business that I got approved for again, I will not be receiving the 30,000 promotion? This is why I signed up for the card, so this would be really frustrating.
Any advice and help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
