Managing credit cards from Israel/Abroad
« on: September 14, 2013, 05:59:26 PM »
Hi, I understand we have lots of Israeli residents (like me!) on the forums. I was wondering how everyone manages their credit cards. I have two questions;
1) How do you get the credit cards?
2) How do you manufacture spending?

For me,
1) I try to apply for when I'll be home? (Anyone have list of cards that will overnight). Or get the #'s. Most companies tell me they cannot ship to dif. address (even in US)- is this true?
2) AP or brother in US (Even AP for Amex need gc...)

I think you should be able to send it to a different address, but if not then once it gets to your address in America you can request another card to Israel. As far as over nighting the card just tell them you need the card asap usually they will express the shipping

Any answer for question #2?

I have a relative receiving the card and sending me the info.
Right now, the only reasonable way to MS is Serve, so I can only get 1-2 cards at a time.

sammy n: Interesting idea, asking for another card in Israel. Do they all agree? How fast and in what form does it arrive?

1. Is it free?
2. Do you have to receive it in person?
3. Is it true that you have to wait until the card has been received to the US address?

1 yes
2 it usually get's slipped under my door
3 not at all. I hang up with recon and immediately call reg CS, they pull the card up with my SS and it arrives before the original.

ETA: Talking about chase here.

1. Yes
2. IME No (but depends on the mail man, so YMMV)
3. not true at all. After I get approved on the phone with recon, they transfer me to customer service and they happily rush it here instead of my real address.

Everything said about Chase is accurate --Amex/Citi  I find more difficult -- need to wait about a week b4 you can order a replacement card to be sent overseas -- all card sent via express service no charge -- Barclay -- is the best they do it on the phone - change address same day u are approved   the card goes out - i get them in"3" day

on all the banks I change my address to Greece after I am approved , I find it helps and get less questions --after card is sent i change back to my orig address

been doing it for 6 years never had a problem --get the cards quicker than when in states and goes out reg mail

I'm not aware of a way to pay CC bills in Shekels. I just pay it online from my US account.

I don't mind paying in USD. Is there any way here in Israel?

How do you get your funds deposited from here to your US checking account?

I don't think there's a way to pay from Israel. Why don't you ask the CC company?

For me, I either have funds coming from the US in the first place, or transfer money there. (The latter is probably the most reasonable solution for you. You just have to find a way to easily transfer funds to the US. I always find people who will make a US transfer to me in exchange for a Shekel transfer to them)

I have all my cards sent to my parents in Virginia. Cards that I need for spending here I get someone to bring to me. Otherwise they stay in Virginia for my parents to go to CVS/Walmart/Target/etc with until the next time I'm in the states to pick them up.

They really appreciate how much easier Redcard has made it.  ;D

Can you please explain for your fellow brothers in Israel what this means?

He probably means it made it easier for them to load money.
