But the service is terrible. Note to self: If you ever partner with an Israeli, make sure they don't get anywhere near your customers. Sad to say the Muslim (?) manager at Izzys was much more CS-friendly than the Israeli co-owner.

Says last year another kosher place won.

Seems we're being asked to believe the kosher bbq is better than the non kosher.  I don't think I can swallow that,  even with a side of cole slaw

Why are you quoting me?

Ostensibly they don't have to, which is probably your point. OTOH the real BBQ contests don't take place in NYC.

Izzy told me a while ago, when I asked him when he's opening another location in my 'hood, that he's looking into opening a much larger location instead and would want it to be hipstery in Gowanus or Williamsburg. It didn't sound like he had an actual plan though.

I never knew that there is an Israeli co-owner. People go there because of the food, and service be damned....

Brisket can be better than Izzy's brisket? Kosher or not, why would it matter how the cow was killed?

The food there (every day) isn't worth the bad service.

In this specific instance, we had an experience there (with the food!), for which I wouldn't go back. But the aforementioned manager enticed me to give them another shot, and this time the bad Israeli service and the co-owner backpedaling on the manager's promises of freebies and making me feel like a loser for claiming what I was promised, confirmed my initial gut-feeling that we shouldn't give them another shot.

Koshering, for one.

Yes.  I haven't had Izzy's yet, but I'm certain that there is way better nonkosher brisket.

For example, is Izzy's even using a wood burning offset smoker? I assume they're probably using gas, seeing as how they're in the middle of CH.

There's also way better nonkosher beef to start with.

Also, my own smoked brisket is probably better, but I'll let you know once I hopefully make it in in a couple weeks.

First, please invite me to the tasting.

Second, he uses wood.

One thing i can say blind about yourself, that you don't know what good food is , no matter the service,  there is not left too many good kosher restaurants in nyc , so called new fancy restaurants with high end prices ,selling rubbish for high prices ....sad

I love this post

Stating facts when he is assuming his toughts in one sentence

Btw i am not a fan of smoked meat

But as far as i know and heard is izzys food made as the highest possibility poosible to do smoked meats ,its wood and the whole 9 yards

Hos food is the best quality in kosher industry, and he has a hard time getting enough

Might be yours is better,  you should have confidence in yourself...

It wasn't intentional, but it's also something after which most people won't return to the restaurant. I'm not going to say anymore.

The added salt can be an advantage.

Lol

There is always lines there , and doing tons of catering, the store can't do more business what they doing now

I wish he opens up soon another branch

In fact it have opened a few other so called kosher smokehouses in ny and no one even picked up to be getting to his toe nail

I have tried all , i would rather eat fast food then eating their spoiled food

There is no tricks , if izzys has customers from all over the world coming and trying him out ,there is something to it , you can't fool people when it comes to food

I highly disagree. Dan is a foodie* and doesn't always praise fad/fancy restaurants just because they are popular.
