Im a firm believer that CH has good places, but you need to take their reputation and divide it in half.

He believes firmly (not like in an emunah/faithful kind of way, just that he's of the strong opinion).
That Crown Heights has good restaurants.
But when you think of what you've heard of them;
Temper expectations by 50%.

I still don't understand , a restaurant is a matter if you like their food or not , you definitely have in crown heights a big variety of unique restaurants you don't have anywhere, or better said some of them were first in the kosher industry, like smoked meat it was first at this kind of style and i think they are still king, even i don't like izzy's service and attitude so much. Buef and bun i think were first of its kind ,i am not a burger fan at all, the max i will pay for a burger is usually not more then 10 bucks for grab and go or fast food , but tons of people still think they are king for burgers, the late calabria pizza was unique and there isnt a copy of it yet and i loved it , even it was pretty expensive, bakarie is unique , they have some pretty good stuff. Artisan bakehouse is still unique even though they are much mote commercial these days and when they were more like mom and pop shop they were much better, but still unique in thier way that u dont have elsewhere , alenbi is unique, but i was never there, i am not such a Israeli food fan ,the list is long , you can go on and on

As one who eats out often everywhere, i still find crown hights unique mostly ,since if u want a good old school simple great breakfast or a sandwich , there isn't where to find one in crown heights

So goes to a simple steakhouse ,haven't tried meat yet,might be meat is the one and the same to a waiter service dairy restaurant there isn't one to find. Basil and mozzarella ia either too high end food that i didn't find it great just to high for my palate and so to mozzarella is maybe too Israeli and overpriced for the type of food , so as an American brooklynite, i found crown heights food scene or better said the kosher city of different kind of restaurants

Till noribar sushi opened lately there wasn't any typical tasty sushi to get there neither

Out of curiosity, how do ppl here feel about Gruit in CH?

I personally did not enjoy the chicken dishes.  DW got a steak which was great, hot pretzel was great and dessert was pretty good.

Considering your earlier post about finding “normal” food in CH, stick to Mermelsteins and Prime Avenue

Phomen in CH if you want something more authentically Asian.
$$$ though.

It’s only pricey if you’re comparing to Chinese. Full dinner for two at ~$100-120 including tax and tip is a good value considering the food and ambiance at Pho-Men.

Never been to mermelstein's yet ,but Prime Avenue food i wouldn't give for my dog to eat ,forget about for a human being, I tried them a few times but it wasn't edible ,
mendy's is passable and decent i would say for fast food . even ess and bench i would choose over prime Avenue ,you probably mix up the word "normal" with "reasonable priced" food , crown heights has plenty of good normal food .

I thought "meat" means they have solid cuts of real meat
