They actually have been planting more and more lulavim in Israel over the past 10 years. However I don't think they export them.

Lulav im are mainly grown in Egypt. Though tere are some DERI lulavim that are grown only in israel.

Last year I used up all my savings to buy a 1000 shekel set, and then some old buddies of mine from the old days came to my house and crashed, and they cut up the esrog and put it in the salad.

I remember reading someplace that they didn't take anything from Egypt this year cause there were enough without it, true?

We hear every year about this crap so-called lulav shortage. There was never one. It's a known tactic by the dealers to gouge prices.

The של"ה הקדוש says that אתרג is a ר"ת for אל תבואני רגל גאוה.
He adds that אתרג is missing a ו to signify that one who brags cuts off the המשכות from above.
[Those familiar with קבלה or חסידות will be aware that a ו signifies a המשכה.]
He speaks at length that one should not brag about the Daled Minim that he bought.

I assume he meant it's not good because it will cause jealousy and perhaps push people to spend beyond their means. But I may be completely off.

Yossef, funny that you mentioned it, just yesterday our ruv told my friend to exchange his esrog for a cheaper one, telling him the price he paid is not for his budget!

I didn't buy yet, but I don't usually pay more than $125
 for the set.

And yes, I get Israeli Deri lulav.

I would say you most definitely have! Virtually all Lulavim being sold in Israel this year and last are grown here. They used to bring more low end Lulavim from Egypt, but now that the whole country fell apart they stopped.
