BTW, I think the Spanish way of doing this makes so much more sense. Why do you have to read the whole sentence before knowing if it's a question or an exclamation? Why can't you get that info before you start reading it?

For the same reason that in English all the modifiers are after the noun.
It's much nicer having the noun first. So you know the big black prickly item is a fruit not a monster.

or even worse...
